It sounds simple, but it’s not simple….
Experiencing true rest and relaxation seems to be increasingly difficult. You would expect it to happen naturally when you have nothing to do. You plop down on the couch and chill… And yes, naturally speaking, you then naturally enter a state of rest and relaxation, only what often happens now is that we become restless within a few minutes of doing nothing.
We are not used to the emptiness and our brain sends a stress signal. ‘Emptiness … help!
Out of habit (or addiction), we have a solution to the stress of emptiness. We pick up the phone. Paf, a new stimulus! Gone is peace and relaxation. An hour later, you’re still sitting on the couch, using your cell phone. You startle, already an hour has passed and you realize you already have another appointment or a chore to do. You look forward to it because you are tired and have no rest in your body and head. This goes from bad to worse.
In short, because these days we startle rather than relax when there are no stimuli for a moment, experiencing rest and relaxation crazily requires more effort. It has become a skill these days. Good news, you can train yourself in this.
